Read 2 Lead was founded in early 2019 by Renee Menary and Megan Farrell. It is a non-profit organization that supports and develops early literacy projects in the community.
In June 2019, the organization became a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization. It adopted the name Read 2 Lead and established core programs such as Books for MICA and Dolly Parton's Imagination Library.
Two years later, Read 2 Lead expanded to include "book end" programs, such as Raising-A-Reader for parents of babies, newborn to 6 months, and Kindergarten Kickoff for preschool graduates.
